Story 2: God Creates Animals and Humans

[Song] “Sing them over again to me, wonderful words of life.  Let me more of their beauty see, wonderful words of life.”

Hello, I’m Mrs. B!  Welcome to Lifeline English, the podcast that helps you know God and know English.

You can read the written script for today’s lesson online at lifelineenglish.com.

Today I want to teach you four words.

The first word is “creature”.  Can you say it?  Creature.  Creature.  The word “creature” is related to the word “create” from lesson 1.  A creature is something God created.  God is not a creature.  God is the creator.  But not everything that God created is a creature.  The sun is not a creature.  Rocks are not creatures.  Trees are not creatures.  Creatures can move themselves. Reptiles, like lizards and frogs are creatures.  Insects, like butterflies and grasshoppers, are creatures.  Fish, like salmon and sharks, are creatures.  Birds, like eagles and owls are creatures. Animals, like dogs and cats, are creatures.  And humans are creatures too.

The second word is “livestock”.  Repeat after me.  Livestock.  Livestock.  Livestock is a type of animal.  Livestock are large, tame animals like cows, horses, sheep, and goats. Humans use livestock for food, clothing, and transportation. They also use livestock to help with farm work.

The third word is “image”.  Say the word after me.  Image.  Image.  An image shows what something looks like.  A photograph of you is an image of you.  The photograph is not you.  But the photograph shows what you look like.  A painting or a statue is also an image.

The fourth word is rule. Can you say it?  Rule.  Rule.  Rule means to bring under control. Government leaders rule over the people in their nation.

Okay, now let’s hear a story that uses our new words.  This story is called, “God Creates Animals and Humans.”   When I ask a question, I will leave a space.  You can answer my question.  Then I will say the answer.  You can compare your answer with my answer.

God made every kind of wild animal.
A wild animal is an animal that does not live with humans.  Is a dog a wild animal?  No, some dogs live with humans.  Dogs are not wild animals.  Are tigers wild animals?  Yes!  Do not bring a tiger into your house!  Tigers are wild animals!  Who made wild animals?  God made wild animals.  Did God make lions?  Yes, God made lions.  God made every kind of wild animal.

He made every kind of livestock.
Are dogs livestock?  No.  Dogs are tame, but dogs are not livestock.  Are cows livestock?  Yes.  Cows are livestock.  What are horses?  Horses are livestock.

He made every kind of creature that moves along the ground.
Are snakes creatures?  Yes.  Snakes are creatures.  Where do snakes move?  Snakes move along the ground.  Are bats creatures?  Yes, bats are creatures.  Do bats move along the ground?  No, bats fly in the air.  Is grass a creature?  No, grass is a plant.  Grass is not a creature.  Does grass move along the ground?  No, grass stays in one place.  Grass is planted in the ground.

And God saw that it was good.
What did God see about the animals?  God saw they were good.
Were the animals bad?  No, the animals were good.
Who decides if something is good or bad?  God decides if something is good or bad.

Then God said, “Let Us make humans in Our image and likeness.
Did God say, “Let Me make humans in My image”?  No, God said, “Let Us make humans in Our image.”  How many Gods are there?  There is one God.  God is three beings.  The Father, the Son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit.

And let them rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky.
Where do fish swim?  Fish swim in the sea.  Where do birds fly?  Birds fly in the sky.

Let them rule over the livestock and all the wild animals. And let them rule over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
Who made the livestock, the wild animals, and the creatures?  God made the livestock, the wild animals, and the creatures.  Who ruled the livestock, the wild animals, and the creatures?  Humans ruled the livestock, the wild animals, and the creatures.

So God created human beings in his image.
What did God create in His image?  God created human beings in His image.

In the image of God he created them.
In whose image did God create human beings?  God created human beings in His image.  Did God create monkeys in His image?  No, God did not create monkeys in His image.  What did God create in His image?  God created human beings in His image.  Are humans gods?  No, humans are not gods.  Humans are made in the image of God.  We are made to show what God is like.  Does God have a body?  No, God does not have a body.  God is a spirit.  How do humans show what God is like?  God knows about Himself.  Humans know about themselves.  God can love and hate and be angry.  Humans can love and hate and be angry.  Do lizards know about themselves?  No, lizards do not know about themselves.  Can a bird love?  No, a bird cannot love.

He created them male and female.
Male and female are genders.  Who created gender?  God created gender.  How many genders did God create?  God created two genders.  What genders did God create?  God created male and female.

God blessed them and said, “Have many children and grow in number.  Fill the earth and bring it under your control.”

Who blessed the humans?  God blessed the humans.  How did God bless the humans?  God blessed the humans with commands.  What did God command the humans?  God commanded the humans to have many children, to grow in number, to fill the earth, and to bring the earth under their control.  Did God command the lions to control the earth?  No, God commanded the humans to control the earth. God gave humans authority to rule the earth.

Let’s listen to the whole story together.

God made every kind of wild animal. He made every kind of livestock. He made every kind of creature that moves along the ground. And God saw that it was good.
Then God said, “Let Us make humans in Our image and likeness. And let them rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky. Let them rule over the livestock and all the wild animals. And let them rule over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
So God created human beings in his image. In the image of God he created them. He created them male and female.  God blessed them and said, “Have many children and grow in number.  Fill the earth and bring it under your control.”

This story is in the third person.  Now, let’s change the story to the second person.  This is how it would sound if we told the story back to God.

You made every kind of wild animal. You made every kind of livestock. You made every kind of creature that moves along the ground. And You saw that it was good.
Then You said, “Let Us make humans in Our image and likeness. And let them rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky. Let them rule over the livestock and all the wild animals. And let them rule over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
So You created us in Your image. In the image of Yourself You created us. You created us male and female.  You blessed us and said, “Have many children and grow in number.  Fill the earth and bring it under your control.”
